As a huge fan of the Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries series, I was practically bouncing with anticipation for this installment, and it didn't disappoint in the slightest. Byrd Nash continues to weave a captivating tale, blending gaslamp fantasy with thrilling mystery and just the right touch of slow-burn romance.
The pacing is phenomenal; I found myself constantly wondering what would happen next. Each page turned revealed another intriguing detail, another clever twist, another shiver-inducing moment. The author's skill in crafting suspense is truly remarkable, keeping me hooked from the very first page to the satisfying conclusion. And let's not forget the wonderfully vivid descriptions! Nash paints such a rich picture of Alenbonné, bringing the period details to life in a way that makes you feel like you're right there, walking the cobblestone streets alongside Elinor and Tristan. I could practically smell the sea air and feel the chill of the autumn wind.
I particularly loved the introduction of the apprentice. It adds a fun dynamic to Elinor's usual investigations, and I'm curious to see how this new relationship develops throughout the series.
